PE (HDPE / LDPE / LLDPE) Injection Molding Material Supplier & Manufacturer

Polyethylene (PE) is a versatile thermoplastic family widely used in injection molding. With excellent chemical resistance, low moisture uptake, good toughness, and attractive cost-performance, HDPE favors stiffness and ESCR, while LDPE/LLDPE offer superior flexibility and impact strength. We provide OEM/ODM PE injection molding from DFM and tooling to validated mass production.

Key Properties of PE for Injection Molding

Chemical & Moisture Resistance

Excellent resistance to water, salts, acids, and many chemicals; near-zero moisture absorption.

Toughness & Impact

LDPE/LLDPE provide superior ductility and impact; HDPE balances stiffness and toughness.

Electrical Insulation

Good dielectric behavior for appliance housings and cable-related parts.

Lightweight & Cost-Effective

Low density and competitive pricing enable efficient high-volume molding.

Applications of PE Injection Molding

  • 🏠 Consumer & Packaging: Caps/closures, containers, household goods
  • 🔌 Electrical & Appliances: Insulating components, cable accessories, housings
  • 🚗 Automotive: Reservoirs, clips, protective covers, interior hardware
  • 🏗 Industrial & Utility: Fittings, valve bodies (light duty), chemical contact parts

PE Injection Molding Process & Considerations

  1. Grade Selection: HDPE for stiffness/ESCR; LDPE for flexibility and clarity; LLDPE for enhanced toughness and tear resistance. (UHMW-PE is rarely injection molded.)
  2. Drying: Typically not required; keep pellets clean/dry to avoid splay or contamination defects.
  3. Melt & Mold Temps (typical): Melt ~180–240 °C; mold 20–50 °C. Tune per part thickness, surface, and dimensional targets.
  4. Shrinkage & Warpage: Semi-crystalline PE has relatively high shrinkage (~1.5–4.0%, grade/geometry dependent). Use balanced gating, adequate packing, uniform walls, and cooling symmetry.
  5. ESCR & Additives: Consider ESCR-enhanced grades and antioxidants; for outdoor use add UV stabilizers/pigments; antistatic/slip agents as needed.
  6. Mold Design: Proper venting to prevent burn marks; generous radii to reduce stress; gate to thick sections; avoid sharp corners to limit stress-crack initiation.
  7. Common Defects: Sink, warpage, flow lines, weld lines, stress cracking (detergents/solvents). Mitigate via gating/packing optimization, wall uniformity, and suitable grade choice.
  8. Food Contact & Compliance: Food-grade HDPE/LDPE available; documentation for FDA/EU on request.

FAQs About PE Injection Molding

1. HDPE vs. LDPE vs. LLDPE—how to choose?

Choose HDPE for stiffness/ESCR; LDPE for flexibility/softness and clarity; LLDPE for enhanced toughness/tear and improved stress-crack resistance.

2. Does PE require drying?

Generally no. Keep pellets clean and dry; if condensation or contamination is suspected, a short low-temp dry can help reduce splay.

3. How to improve ESCR and outdoor durability?

Use ESCR-enhanced HDPE/LLDPE, avoid sharp stress concentrators, and add UV stabilizers/pigments for outdoor exposure; validate with environmental testing.

4. Can PE be used for food-contact parts?

Yes. We source compliant grades and supply processing/traceability documentation per your regulatory market (e.g., FDA/EU).

5. Why isn’t UHMW-PE commonly injection molded?

Ultra-high molecular weight results in extremely high melt viscosity; extrusion/press/sintering are more feasible. For injection, we typically use HDPE/LLDPE.
