ABS Injection Molding Supplier & Manufacturer
ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is one of the most widely used engineering plastics for injection molding.
It offers an excellent balance of impact resistance, mechanical strength,
surface quality, and cost efficiency.
ABS is the go-to material for consumer electronics housings, home appliances, automotive interior parts,
and industrial enclosures.
We provide full-service OEM/ODM ABS injection molding from DFM and tooling to mass production and finishing.
Key Properties of ABS for Injection Molding
Impact Resistance
Excellent toughness and drop resistance, even at lower temperatures. Suitable for housings and protective shells.
Mechanical Strength
Good rigidity and load-bearing capability for structural and semi-structural components.
Surface Finish & Appearance
Supports glossy, matte, textured, and painted finishes. Ideal for visible, consumer-facing parts.
Processability
Stable molding window, good flow, and consistent shrinkage make ABS suitable for complex and multi-cavity molds.
Applications of ABS Injection Molding
- 📱 Consumer Electronics: Device housings, chargers, routers, monitors, remote controls
- 🏠 Home Appliances: Vacuum cleaner shells, coffee machines, control panels, covers
- 🚗 Automotive Interior: Dashboard trims, vents, pillar covers, console components
- 🏭 Industrial Products: Enclosures, control boxes, instrument housings
- 🧴 Personal Care: Cosmetic device housings, dispensers, grooming tools
ABS Injection Molding Process & Considerations
- Drying: ABS is hygroscopic. Typical drying is ~80–90 °C for 2–4 hours to prevent splay, bubbles, and surface defects.
- Melt & Mold Temperatures: Melt ~210–250 °C; mold ~40–80 °C. Proper mold temperature improves surface gloss and weld-line strength.
- Shrinkage: Approx. 0.4–0.7%. Balanced wall thickness and proper packing are key to dimensional stability.
- Flow & Gating: ABS flows well but can show weld lines. Gate positioning and flow balancing are critical for cosmetic parts.
- Stress & Cracking: Avoid sharp corners and aggressive snap-fits. Fillets and uniform wall transitions reduce stress concentration.
- Surface & Decoration: ABS is highly paintable and printable. Painting, silk-screen, laser marking, and vacuum metallization are commonly used.
- Variants: Available in flame-retardant (FR), high-heat, high-impact, electroplating, and UV-modified grades.
- Alternatives: For higher heat or toughness, consider PC+ABS; for outdoor UV resistance, consider ASA.

FAQs About ABS Injection Molding
1. ABS vs. HIPS — which one should I choose?
ABS offers higher strength, heat resistance, and overall durability. HIPS is lower cost and suitable for non-structural housings. ABS is preferred for premium or long-life products.
2. Can ABS be used outdoors?
Standard ABS has limited UV resistance. For outdoor use we recommend UV-stabilized ABS or ASA for better long-term weatherability.
3. Is ABS suitable for flame-retardant applications?
Yes. FR ABS grades are available and widely used in electronics and appliances requiring UL 94 ratings.
4. Can ABS parts be painted or electroplated?
Yes. ABS is one of the best plastics for painting and electroplating, commonly used for decorative chrome finishes.
5. How do you control weld lines on ABS housings?
We optimize gate design, mold temperature, injection speed, and venting to minimize weld lines on visible surfaces.
